Premium Aviator Jackets & Shearling Coats
Extreme cold requires extreme engineering. The Aviator jacket was born at 25,000 feet. Originally designed to keep WWII bomber crews alive in unpressurized cabins, this silhouette remains the gold standard for winter insulation. Rare Jackets updated this icon for the modern wardrobe. We retained the rugged, oversized structure but refined the fit for contemporary life. Whether you choose genuine sheepskin or our high-density faux fur, you get a garment that creates an impenetrable barrier against the elements.
The Icons of Altitude
- The B3 Bomber This is the heavyweight champion of outerwear. Modeled after the 1934 military issue, the B3 features a thick, plush lining that extends through the sleeves and body. The wide collar can be flipped up and buckled tight to protect the neck and face from freezing winds. It is the warmest jacket we manufacture.
- The G1 Flight Jacket A streamlined alternative to the B3. The G1 offers a cleaner silhouette with a Mouton-style collar and ribbed cuffs. It features functional patch pockets and a bi-swing back for arm mobility. This jacket transitions easily from a winter commute to a casual evening.
- The Shearling-Lined Moto We combined the rebellion of the biker jacket with the warmth of the aviator. This hybrid style features the asymmetrical zipper of a double rider but is fully lined with insulating fur. It provides the thermal retention of a winter coat with the aggressive look of a street jacket.
Insulation & Materials
- Premium Faux Shearling (Sherpa) We engineered a synthetic lining that rivals the warmth of natural wool. Our high-density faux fur traps body heat effectively while remaining lightweight. It offers the plush, luxury feel of shearling at an accessible price point. It is durable, easy to maintain, and entirely cruelty-free.
- Genuine Sheepskin For the purist. We select hides where the wool is left intact on the skin. This natural fiber regulates body temperature. It keeps you warm outside but prevents overheating when you enter a building. The leather exterior is incredibly soft and breaks in quickly.
- Weather-Resistant Finishes A winter jacket must handle moisture. We treat our Aviator exteriors to resist light rain and snow. The leather acts as a windbreaker, while the inner pile creates a thermal air pocket around your torso.
Why Choose a Rare Aviator?
The Warmth-to-Weight Ratio Vintage flight jackets often weigh over five pounds. They are exhausting to wear. We sourced modern materials that provide the same thermal index with significantly less bulk. You stay warm without feeling weighed down.
Structural Integrity Heavy linings can cause a jacket to lose its shape. We reinforced the seams with heavy-duty nylon thread and added structural piping. Your jacket maintains its commanding silhouette season after season.
